In 2018 Ukrainian border guards identified more than 1400 irregular migrants
In the first half of 2018, the State Border Service of Ukraine recorded an increase in the number of identified irregular migrants by 22%. Thus, during the first six months of 2018, 1,432 irregular migrants were detained (compared to 1,173 migrants detained by border guards for the same period of 2017): 417 for illegal border crossing and 1004 for violating the rules of stay.
According to the Head of the State Border Service of Ukraine Petro Tsygykal, recently irregular migrants tend to move in groups. Groups of 13-15 migrants were identified on the eastern border, and groups of 30 migrants were identified on the border with Slovakia.
Especially there is an increase in the illegal border crossing of the citizens of Vietnam. For example, for the first six months of this year, 129 citizens of this country were detained. In addition to Vietnamese citizens, most often Ukrainian border guards detained citizens of Iraq, Turkey, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Morocco, Sri Lanka and India.
Most of the irregular migrants were detained by Ukrainian border guards at the border with Slovakia (141), Poland (115), Moldova (63) and Hungary (52).
