Moldova and Ukraine signed an agreement on joint control at interstate border
On 7 October 2017 Moldova and Ukraine signed agreement on joint control at interstate border. The Agreement between the Moldovan Government and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on Joint Control of Persons, Means of Transport, Goods and Objects at the Common Moldovan-Ukrainian State Border Crossing Points was signed during the official visit of Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman to Chisinau.
The document establishes new forms of interaction between border control institutions to simplify bureaucratic formalities and procedures, while ensuring security and respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of state borders.
The joint control at the Moldovan-Ukrainian border will be applied both for road and rail transport. Also, it will promote effective counteracting to irregular migration and illegal activities at the common state border.
The agreement provides for common control at all border crossing points of the Moldovan-Ukrainian state border, including the central segment.
The document is concluded between Moldova and Ukraine for a period of five years and complies with commitments made by both states under the Association Agreements with the EU.
